South Of Scotland Football League Result

Newton Stewart 6
Lochmaben FC 1

The visitors got off to a flying start inside four minutes when a long through ball found Adam White on the left flank who quickly turned inside his man and fired home a superb strike from 20 yards to put Lochmaben in front. That lead was short lived however when within a minute the home side drew level after Aaron Drysdale was bundled over in the box and Robert Middleton stepped up , picked his spot and rifled his effort home to level the contest after a blistering start to the match. The home side gradually began to take control of the game and midway through the half keeper Euan Drysdale launched a long free kick from his own half into the visitors box finding Marc Whyte who nodded his header into the path of the on rushing Aaron Drysdale and without hesitation the youngster unleashed an absolute screamer which flew narrowly over the bar. Despite dominating much of the play the home side had to wait until ten minutes before the interval to finally go in front when a long throw in into the Lochmaben half found Marc Whyte and the midfielder spun , taking one touch before firing an unstoppable effort from 25 yards that sailed into the top corner of the net to give the Blairmount Park side the lead. In the very next attack the Newton went further in front after Charlie Caygill played a ball over the top of the defence and striker Robert Middleton took the pass in his stride before slotting home to put the home side further in front. The Blairmount Park side were on the front foot at this stage and with five minutes to go to the break they went further in front when a great ball over the top found the returning Matt Deazeley who calmly headed home from close range to put the Creesiders into a commanding lead at the interval.

The second half began as the first half had ended when within a minute of the restart the home side broke at pace down the left with Matt Deazeley surging down the line and his cut back was dummied by Robert Middleton allowing Callum McKeand to side foot his effort goal wards from eight yards that unfortunately rattled off the post to safety. With Newton dominating proceedings it came as no surprise when minutes later Jack Marshall won the ball in the Lochmaben half and played an exquisite through ball to Aaron Drysdale who composed himself before placing a strong shot into the corner of the net for the home sides fifth of the afternoon. The Creesiders weren’t finished there when another lightning attack inside the hour mark found Aaron Drysdale through on goal yet again and he brilliantly evaded the keepers challenge foci g him wide however he managed to cut the ball back across goal from a tight angle to Robert Middleton who had the easiest of tasks to roll the ball over the line for his hat trick. The Creesiders were in an irresistible mood at this stage and on 61 minutes they were unlucky not to go further ahead when the effervescent Aaron Drysdale , who was terrific on the day , was unlucky to see his effort cannon off the post much to the visitors relief. Newton made a raft of substitutions with quarter of the match remaining and to Lochmaben’s great credit they came back into the match well despite being reduced to ten men after a second caution and they battled superbly throughout the remainder of the contest.

A great performance that will give the team a huge boost going into next weeks South Challenge Cup tie with West of Scotland side Lugar Boswell Thistle at Rosebank
